“How do I stop doom scrolling, it always puts me in a bad mood” Ok! So I used to doom scroll all the time, and I still sometimes do, but something that has really helped me is picking up hobbies that are easy to do and help me relax. My favorite, easy to pick up hobbies are crossword puzzles, juggling, and I don’t know if this counts as a hobby- but playing with my cat. Some other good mindless hobbies that can help you zill out are coloring books, stretching, or reading. I always try to make sure these hobbies are within reach. I used to keep my juggling balls inside my desk drawer and never practiced because I never thought about them. Now, I keep them on top of my desk [grabs balls from desk] so I see them all the time and I’m reminded that I actually enjoy juggling. The same goes for something like a guitar, you’re never going to play if it’s tucked away in your closet but if it’s on a stand next to your couch, you probably will. The more you reach for one of these hobbies, the less likely you are to reach for your phone. And, these easy hobbies are also a great way to zill, reset, and put you in a better mood if you do find yourself doom scrolling. You can also use your hobbies to connect with people in the real world, off of your phone. If you have plans to go to have a craft day with your friend, who needs doom scrolling? I also use my hobbies to connect with people in the real world, off of my phone. If I have plans to go to have a craft day with my friend, who needs doom scrolling? Turns out I’m also way better at juggling, now! So can you think of any hobbies that could help you replace doom scrolling? Is there anything you could do to make your hobbies more accessible? If there’s a time of day that you always find yourself on your phone, maybe you could schedule time for your hobbies instead.
