I've always found big transitions kind of tough. Moving to a new city was harder than I expected. I didn't know anyone and everything felt big and overwhelming at first. I stayed home a lot, but I realized that taking small steps would put me in the right direction. Going outside for a walk, getting work done at a coffee shop, going to the gym, I started journaling to process it all and to understand my own feelings and set small goals for myself. Writing became a way to stay connected to myself even when everything else felt unfamiliar. Once I felt more comfortable in my new environment, it gave me the confidence and the push to start meeting new people, making new connections, and creating new experiences. There was a day when I thought about asking someone new to hang out. I felt awkward and almost didn't say anything, but I asked anyway. And that led to meeting friends of friends and a whole network of new relationships and experiences. Getting out of your comfort zone, even in tiny ways, makes a difference. Try out that new restaurant. Say yes to a plan. Smile at someone you recognize. These were a few reminders for myself that helped motivate me. Start small, one step outside, one new place to explore. One invite. That's how connection grows.
