I often struggle with getting out of bed in the morning, especially if I know I’m going to have a busy day. I will stay in bed for an embarrassing amount of time procrastinating on my phone, and it leaves me rushing to get ready and late for my responsibilities. BUT- this happens a lot less since I’ve started implementing a few routines. First of all I make sure to give myself enough time to get ready in the morning. I try to think through my routine and any extra tasks the night before and set my alarm so I have plenty of time. My number one rule is not to open social media first thing when I wake up. I try to keep a book on my bedside table so I can wake myself up by reading instead of scrolling. It’s easier for me to get bored of reading, so it’s easier for me to get started with the day. Another option is doing a few quick stretches in bed- this makes getting up feel way easier since my body is more awake. When I’m really struggling to get up I will open my notes app and make a to-do list- this helps me mentally prepare for the day ahead. It often makes a daunting day feel more doable. I try to make my bed every morning. It’s a great way to feel like I’ve already done something good for myself at the beginning of the day- and it feels so nice to come back home to. Next I will get dressed and get everything that I need for the day ready by the door. I like to do this earlier rather than later so I’m not frantically running around last minute. And maybe most importantly, I will eat breakfast so that I can have the energy to make the most out of my day. This morning routine isn’t really about being productive, it’s about feeling good and looking after my body and mind so that I can tackle the rest of my day. finding my “zill” so that I can tackle the rest of my day. Procrastinating getting out of bed in the morning is normal, but if you’re struggling with it everyday it could be a sign that you may need to reach out for support from someone you can confide in.
